Multimedia Project Requirements

The Assignment

Each group will pick a habitat to investigate.  The group will research this habitat, then pick one animal within this habitat to focus on in depth.  Using multimedia, each group will create web pages about their chosen habitat and animal.  Information is included on this website to aid in the creation of your multimedia project.

 

The Multimedia project

Groups should use the DDD-E model to guide them in the design and development of their projects.  To guide you, information about this model, templates and examples are included on this website under the Organizing your Project link and the forms link.  The requirements are as follows:

·         Decide – Groups will pick a topic and decide on what they wish to present.  A decide outline will need to be turned in for approval.  A template for the decide outline is found under the forms link.

 

·         Design - During the design phase first you will create an outline of the content you will include.  Next your group will create a flowchart detailing how your website will flow.  The outline and flowchart will need to be turned in for approval prior to proceeding on.  As the final aspect of the design phase your group will create storyboards. A template can be found under the forms link.

 

·         Develop – Each Group will develop their website to effectively convey their content information.  In addition to graphics, each group should include two multimedia elements – animation, audio or video – as part of their project.

 

·         Evaluate – each students will complete self and peer evaluations.  See the Assessment section for rubrics and details and the forms link for the templates.

 

Content

Groups should make sure to cover the following content on their webpages:

·         Indentify your Habitat and its Biotic and Abiotic factors.

Ø  Abiotic Factors: Abiotic components are the nonliving components of the biosphere. Chemical and geological factors, such as rocks and minerals, and physical factors, such as temperature and weather, are referred to as abiotic components.

§  This section should include a brief description of the abiotic factors of the environment you have decided to study and include the way its supports or hinders the biotic. This section should include the following:

v  At least 3 images, these can be static.

v  A description of each abiotic factor tastefully integrated with the images you have chosen. This can be a sound file or animations.

Ø  Biotic Factors: Biotic, meaning of or related to life, are living factors. Plants, animals, fungi, protist and bacteria are all biotic or living factors

§  Choose 3 to 4 biotic factors in the environment.  For each factor you should include the following:

v  Taxonomy, Images, Sound, Description of their role in the environment.

·         Identify the one species that you wish to research in detail.

Ø  Describe your species and what makes it unique.

Ø  Explain the role that your specific organisms plays in its ecosystem and its trophic level.

Ø  Explain what factors or changes, succession, in the environment have caused this species to experience problems.

§  Include relevant topics such as causes of population fluctuations, issues with the current carrying capacity of their environment, limiting factors and human factors.

Ø  Explain the consequences of the interrupting of natural cycles. 

§  Include relevant topics such as how other species are affected by your animal’s stresses, and how people are affected –for example, benefits of the species that might be lost.

Ø  Analyze how humans are affecting this situation both positively and negatively.

§  Include various perspectives on the issue

§  Include volunteer and legislative efforts

§  Include ideas and proposals of how to solve this issue and get involved in efforts to help

 Presentation - Each group will demonstrate their website and the content to the class

Individual Report – Each group member will submit a two page report covering one aspect of the species that the group is researching
